A witch Halloween costume is one of the classics. The name witch comes from the Saxon term wica, meaning “wise one.” Witches have been connected with Halloween for centuries. Legends tell of witches gathering twice a year when the seasons changed: on the eve of May Day (April 30) and on All Hallows’ Eve (October 31). Witches would gather on these nights, arriving on broomsticks, to celebrate at a party hosted by the devil.
