Halloween Masks: Frightful or Funny

Posted by RLuve On August - 24 - 2008 ADD COMMENTS

Halloween masks come in all types and sizes. They can be painted on with a skillful hand, bought in online stores, made by hand from latex, foam rubber latex prosthetics, cut from paper, or made from paper. Whether you choose fun clowns, evil clowns, or a monkey face, the look you want is not beyond your reach.

Halloween masks that cover the eyes, but can slip, are dangerous, and can hamper vision, putting your little ghost or goblin at risk for an accident from stepping into a hole and taking a fall, to stepping in front of a moving vehicle. Anytime you can use make up or a mask made of a non-slip latex prosthetic, it is much better. Safety should never be compromised by a mask that slips and blocks vision.

Halloween masks can be made very inexpensively with makeup and things you have around your house. The only limitations to these are your imagination. Very complex, somewhat expensive ($50 and up) foam latex prosthetic mask kits can be ordered online. These Halloween masks come preformed, so all you have to do is apply a little baby powder to your face, use skin glue, apply them to your face, and apply the make up according to easy to follow directions. Another alternative is to make your own Halloween mask using make up and a few ‘props’ made at home or purchased from any department store. One thing I cannot stress enough is to put powder on the faces of anyone who plans to use skin glue.

Halloween masks can also be whatever you want them to be. Use your imagination and be creative. Go to the craft store and let your mind do all of the roaming that it wants. You get to be the creative genius in who or what you want to create.

Fun Halloween Ideas for Kids

Halloween is a much loved time by kids and grownups too… The build up to it is such an exciting time. Indulge your kids excitement this Halloween by trying one of these fun Halloween ideas.

Your Own Haunted House – decorate your house with cobwebs, plastic spiders, and other scary Halloween must haves. You don’t have to go out and decorate the whole house (although that would be fun too), you can choose one ’scary’ room and make that your Halloween haunted room.

And don’t forget the outside – Gather lots of pumpkins, acorns, dried corn and other autumn and Halloween items and decorate your front and back yard. You can cut out a huge witch profile made out of felt and stick it to the side of your house or garage for extra fun.

Toast Marshmallows – Invite a few kids over and toast marshmallows and read ghost stories. You don’t have to wait for Halloween to do this, do it a few days before to keep the momentum going. And don’t forget the nice hot chocolate or witch’s brew too.

Scary Snacks – A few days before Halloween prepare some scary food snacks to set the theme. Use scary themed cookie cutters to make scary sandwiches, cookies or even tortilla chips. Make a scary Halloween punch and enjoy.

Halloween Crafts – Have fun with Halloween arts and crafts, use construction paper, felt, and anything else you can find to make Halloween cards or decorations for the house. The kids will really enjoy it and it’s nice to add some special homemade touches to your scary house.

Whatever you do this Halloween remember kids love this time of the year so don’t limit it to just one day, set the theme for the perfect Halloween by building up to it with a few fun kid Halloween activities.

I’d have to say that Halloween costumes are a terrific fun. The other fun thing about Halloween is the Halloween decorating. One of the best items for Halloween decorating is the various spiders and the bigger and scarier the better. No home should be without huge, terrifying spiders for Halloween decorating.
